COURSEWORK FOR SEMESTER STUDY OF LECHI AND IRGUN UNDERGROUNDS OF ERETZ ISRAEL , PRE-STATEHOOD
Undergraduate College Level -
Twelve (12) week coursework on a collegiate level (History/3 hrs)
High School Level –
Can adjust (by adding more assignments) to a one year course for Jewish High School, with standards appropriate to students academic levels (1 History credit)
Graduate College Level –
Master's level can be adjusted by a final research paper with a specific focus approved by Instructor

Lesson Plan Assignments:
1) TIMELINE study divided into weekly segments for classroom discussion directed by course Instructor - (Emphasis on particular segments of this history can be individualized to Instructor's discretion.)
2) One Biography / per student / per week given in oral presentations to entire class (specifications for presentations dependent on class size and time limitations)
3) One “Conclusion Quote” essay / per student / per week (from EIF “Conclusions” page) – 1000 words
4) One written book report / per month (3) / *student synopses given in class sub-groups: Outline for written book reports:
- Timeline of events
- Background of characters
- Intention of author in recording his memoirs
- Lessons learned
- Conclusions that shaped Israel 's statehood
*The length of these biography reports is variable as some of the most impacting persons had little background history or short lives … others were part of generations of pioneers since the 1880s … regardless, their lessons and conclusions are of utmost importance.
Note: In 1, 2, and 3 above, there must be no duplication of choices, affording the multiplicity of persons/issues studied within the class.
5) Individual Research Paper at end of term (10-14 pages):
“What impact did the LECHI and Irgun have in establishing and defining Eretz Israel ?”
Outline for research paper:
- Define “Eretz Israel ”
- Explain the influences of the varied Jewish segments
- Explain the issues of immigration
- Expiate on Jabotinsky's vision
- International law and international politics
- Illegal Immigration
- Holocaust / DP camps
- Beyond WWII
- ss. Altalena
- Jerusalem
- United Nations
- The influence of the LECHI / Irgun in determining statehood
Bonus Project Essay:
“If LECHI and Irgun had continued after May 14, 1948 …”
To the Instructor : Maximizing the oral presentations of course content increases the amount of information the students can be exposed to; this factor will be dictated by class size and hours.
